The U.S. and Europe were major yarn and fabric producers; now these countries have shifted their attention from traditional textile products to technical and high-performance textiles.

The U.S. was consuming virtually all its cotton production of over 22 million cotton bales. Now, more than 60% of this production is being exported to other countries around the world.
